Likuliku Resort Fiji Re-opens

Fiji’s Likuliku Lagoon Resort is delighted to celebrate its re-opening this week, welcoming guests from all around the world including first guests John and Helen Garrett from Sydney, Australia on their eleventh stay at the award-winning resort.
The re-opening celebrations come just two weeks after Likuliku was awarded Best Overseas Resort in the prestigious Australian Luxury Travel Magazine’s 2013 Gold List Awards for the fourth consecutive year. This tremendous accolade is a significant achievement for the luxury couple’s-only resort, following an extensive F$3M refurbishment to repair the damage sustained during Tropical Cyclone Evan that struck the Mamanuca Islands and the Resort on 17th December 2012.
Group General Manager Steve Anstey commented, “It is hard to put into words what our re-opening means for us and there are so many people we wish to thank. From the builders who restored our beautiful resort and our exceptional staff who have worked tirelessly around the clock to bring it back to life, the travel industry for continuing to support us and of course, to our past and future guests who have also recognised how special this unique resort is.”
Mrs Garrett notes, ”The Lagoon is so peaceful and beautiful”. In 2007 a friend recommended that they visit Likuliku and they have never looked back. “Happy people and wonderful food amidst a beautiful island setting is what we love about Likuliku”.

Amanresorts offers a guest experience that is intimate and discreet while providing the highest level of service. Each resort and setting is unique, but certain elements characterise all of them — a beautiful natural location, outstanding facilities, exceptional service and a small number of rooms to ensure exclusivity and privacy.

Amankila

Since 1988, when flagship Amanpuri opened in Phuket, Thailand, Amanresorts has established resorts in Bhutan, Cambodia, China, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Laos, Montenegro, Morocco, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the Turks and Caicos Islands and the United States of America.

Amanresorts continues to relish the exploration of new destinations.

BEACHES

From the tropical beaches of Amanpulo on the private isle of Pamalican in the Philippines, to the turquoise waters and powder-fine white-sand beach of Amanyara in the Turks and Caicos Islands, to the wonders of a luxury Balinese wedding, the Aman beach experience begins with the Beach Club.

ROMANTIC ESCAPES

star-gaze on a private island

Amanpulo is set on its own private island of Pamalican in the Philippines. Guests travel from Manila by chartered plane to the island, landing on Amanpulo’s airstrip. Surrounded by white-sand beaches, clear blue waters, and a coral reef 300m from shore, the secluded island hosts a variety of beach and water activities. Stargaze through Amanpulo’s 850 x 90mm astronomical refractor telescope or relax in the tranquillity of the Beach Club, enjoying the blue panorama of sea and sky.

Philippines

dive in the turquoise waters of the caribbean

For romance in the Caribbean, Amanyara embraces a pristine landscape unspoilt by time on the secluded western shore of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Imbued with the romantic solitude of the West Indies of old, Amanyara is open to the elements, the sun and its reflections off the ponds, the sea breeze, the sights and sounds of the ocean.

Turks

dine by candlelight in a moroccan olive grove

At Amanresorts, romantic escapes can take many forms. On the outskirts of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Marrakech in Morocco, sun-paled Amanjena ripples with Moresque arches from the grand entranceway to the fireplaces.  With views to the High Atlas Mountains, the entrance colonnade leads past courtyards and fountains strewn with rose petals, Marrakech’s flower. Dine beneath the retractable skylight in the elegant onyx-columned Restaurant to accompaniment of Moroccan musicians.

SAFARI & ADVENTURE

Aman resorts offers access to some of the world’s most pristine natural environments, from Amanwana on the nature reserve of Moyo Island, east of Bali, to the five lodges of Amankora across the sheltered Himalayan landscapes of Bhutan. These wilderness areas are havens for wildlife, and home to some of the world’s most endangered species.

tiger-sighting at ranthambhore national park

Set on the apron of Rajasthan’s Ranthambhore National Park, the wilderness camp of Aman-i -Khás offers twice daily nature and wildlife safaris, providing guests an opportunity to sight leopards, tigers, crocodiles, sloth bears and other animals in their natural habit. At this Rajasthan Luxury Safari Camp, a customized open-top safari vehicle takes guests into the core of Ranthambhore National Park, which measures around 400sqkm.

Safari

wildlife safaris at grand teton national park

At Amangani in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, wildlife safaris are conducted year round. In the spring, guests travel on a full-day excursion in Amangani’s four-wheel drive luxury SUVs with binoculars, window-mounted scopes and an experienced Amangani field guide.

One of the highlights of the September-October mating season is the unforgettable sound of bugling: the call of the bull elk. Autumn is also the season of migration, with the Wyoming skies full of flocking birds and waterfowl. In winter, as soon as snow begins to blanket the higher ground, elk come down in their thousands.

In India’s northwest frontier state of Rajasthan, guests can combine wildlife safaris at the luxury tented wilderness camp of Aman-i-Khás, with visits to completely preserved Moghul cities and palaces, accessible from Amanbagh. Where Amanresorts has more than one resort in a country, guests are encouraged to journey between them.

SNOW & SKI

If it’s action-packed days on the slopes and a convivial après-ski atmosphere, Amanresorts provides access to the best of both.  At Amangani in Wyoming, USA, you are a complimentary 20-minute shuttle ride away from the Amangani Ski Lounge and some of North America’s most acclaimed ski-runs at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, 1,000 hectares of high-thrill skiing and snowboarding terrain featuring North America’s greatest  lift-serviced vertical drop at 1,260m (4,139ft).

Ski

Le Mélézin, a French Alps luxury hotel in the fashionable Alpine village of Courchevel 1850, lies in the heart of the world’s largest ski area, the Trois Vallées in the French Alps. Sitting directly on the Bellecôte ski slope, 200m from the village centre and its ski lifts, ski school, banks and shops, guests can enjoy superb ski-in and ski-out facilities. Is the premium economy trend finally catching on?

Tags

, , , ,

A number of airlines have dabbled with the idea and more of them started to introduce an expanded “middle” class. Many major airlines have started pushing the trend to catch downgraders and entice upgraders who are not quite ready to splash on frills. They include British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Qantas and Air New Zealand.

Today, airlines such as Cathay Pacific and Qantas are putting much more into this in-between class to give it an exclusivity of its own. It used to sell mainly on wider seats with more recline and legroom, but the perks have been expanded to include a string of priorities at check-in, boarding and baggage delivery on arrival, more generous checked baggage allowances, an apparently more refined meal service on board, a wider screen for in-flight entertainment system, brand-name amenity kits and higher frequent flyer mileage points.

In Nadi, hit the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pools in the morning, go kayaking in the afternoon and head to Mama’s Pizza for dinner. They say that true education lies in experience and travel, which makes a perfect excuse for a family holiday. The Cook Islands in particular have so much to teach, with their genuine culture rich in heritage and tradition, and their harmonious lifestyles living at one with the earth. But it’s not all learning and observing with a trip to the idealistic Cook Islands. With endless sunshine, an unfathomable playground of beaches and activities galore, a family holiday to the Cook Islands is all about balance. Rarotonga, the largest island, offers convenience and options while the island of Aitutaki provides laid back seclusion.

Places to be seen in 2013

Tags

, , ,

Any travel junkie will tell you that there is nothing quite like the buzz of being first to discover a wonderful part of the world. That could be an entire country, a hard-to-reach region, or a best-kept-secret neighbourhood of a city before it hits the mainstream and the developers move in. Sometimes it’s a matter of timing it right, when there’s enough going on to make a place exciting, and before it becomes tired and over-developed.

Rio de Janeiro is already gearing up for the 2016 Olympics. Its 2013 carnival in February is tipped to be the biggest and most popular yet. And considering what a spectacle Rio Carnival is, imagine its opening ceremony. But it’s no longer just Rio that’s got a lot to offer tourists. São Paulo is an incredibly exciting city to visit right now; it’s Brazil’s biggest city, its financial capital and design capital, where the country’s movers, shakers and money-makers network among its chi-chi bars, restaurants and boutique.

Image

Philippines For travellers willing to go the extra thousand miles for a deserted beach, the Philippines has around 7,000 of the most heavenly islands in the world. It’s still not the most obvious beach-holiday destination, but it soon will be.

There are just a handful of resorts, which are tasteful and deliberately low-key. Two of the newest are Ariara Island and El Nido Pangulasian Island, a private-island resort with palm-thatched villas, a spa, its own dive centre, and sea views to melt the heart.

Image

THE CONGO. Its very name conjures up images of exoticism, quintessential Africa, of David Livingstone and Joseph Conrad paddling up the Congo River into the great unknown.
And most of the Congo is still unknown. Its rainforest is the second largest in the world, and it has barely been touched. Among it lives diverse and abundant wildlife including mountain gorillas, African forest elephants, bonobos or pygmy chimpanzees – all endangered, all found only in the Congo. It also has the most monkeys in Central Africa.
Image

Galápagos is one of the most fascinating places on earth, an evolutionary melting pot. In the Pacific Ocean, around 500 miles off the coast of Ecuador, the archipelago is renowned for its incredible number of rare and endemic species.

‘Galápagos is full of drama, full of charismatic creatures,’ says Attenborough. ‘It is one of the most wonderful places in the world. There are extraordinary creatures living there, that live nowhere else… They have remained isolated for so long that they still haven’t become frightened of human beings.’

Image

Mayan Riviera

A smattering of new rustic-chic little properties which have opened around Tulum make great places to stay for discerning travellers seeking barefoot luxury.

Design Hotels’ first own hotel, Papaya Playa Project popped up on the sand at Tulum at the start of 2012, transforming raw-wood huts from basic to boho, mixing ethnic textiles and raw food with high-threadcount sheets and disco balls swinging from the palm trees. Amansala Chica has just opened with a similar feel: driftwood furniture, yoga on the rooftop, more than a faint whiff of incense in the air.

Image

Panama No longer just a place where ships pass in the night, Panama is the cool Caribbean destination of the moment. There is great change afoot; and it will continue to change over the next few years, with interesting developments that will ensure it becomes known for more than its legendary canal.

A few miles off-shore, the private, sustainably-developed Pearl Island will open, surrounded by gloriously turquoise waters with 14 private beaches and a handful of lodges to stay in and also to buy.

Image

Oman It’s still an unknown entity, most of Oman; a vast, unexplored nib on the Arabian Peninsula. In Musandam, Six Senses Zighy Bay resort offers the kind of privacy afforded only by the very rich. The only way to get there is by boat, or driving across the desert in a 4×4 from Dubai and then – if you’re up for it – paragliding down the mountains to land at the hotel.
